NORPALM GHANA LIMITED – PLANTATION DEPARTMENT

Norpalm Ghana Limited (NGL) owns an industrial plantation with a total concession of 4,500 Ha at two sites located at Pretsea in the Mpohor District and Sese in the Ahanta West District all in the Western Region of Ghana.

The Industrial Mill which processes Fresh Fruit Bunches (FFB) from the Nucleus Estate and independent smallholder farmers is located at Pretsea.

The Nucleus Estate has a total developed area of 3,969 Ha of which 1,050 Ha (Third generation) is in the immature stage. The Nucleus estate supplies about 68% of the total FFB processed at the Mill. NGL also has about 80 Ha (currently under replanting) under a Scheme smallholder program for forty (40) farmers.
Approximately 170 Ha is held as High conservation Value (HCV) and Biodiversity Plots for the preservation and protection of endangered species as well as conservation of sites of cultural interest to the surrounding communities.

The plantation has been undertaking yield intensification programs through the deployment of Best Management Practices (BMP) which has caused a significant improvement in the yields with some blocks yielding as high as 20MT/Ha.

32% of FFB is sustainably sourced from numerous independent smallholder farmers from the catchment area of NGL. NGL provides technical assistance through the provision of extension services to Partnered farmers. Currently, NGL has set up two buying centers at Nyanfueku Ekroful and Mpanyinasa where independent smallholders go to sell their FFB through NGL Agents.

The Nucleus Estate and the Scheme smallholder are under the certification of the Round Table on Sustainable Palm Oil (RSPO) since 2016. This ensures that all operations are conducted in a safe, sustainable, and environmentally friendly atmosphere while respecting the rights of the surrounding communities and all stakeholders.
